Description

This sculpture is part of a series of wood sculptures "The beauty of walnut wood" in which I explore the texture, contrast and shape of walnut wood, carving on the cross sections of the wood, on the head of the fibers, where the wood is very hard but reveals its beauty dynamic of growth. The diversity and nature of the medium constantly provides both the challenge and the inspiration to push the boundaries.
Flight, one of man's greatest dreams: to fly.
From childhood dreams to flying across seas and countries in commercial aircraft, space exploration, or more recently, space tourism, our appetite for air seems insatiable.

Description

After Orpheus loses Eurydice for the second time, because he failed to bring her back to life, disobeying the condition set by the gods not to look back, he, inconsolable, isolates himself and spends his time playing the lyre on Mt. Haemus.
The despair caused by the final loss of Eurydice made Orpheus isolate himself, despise and insult the women of Thrace.
Finally, exasperated, they retaliated by tearing him to pieces, prey to the ecstasy of Bacchic orgies.
After his death, the shadow of Orpheus descends underground, into hell, he finds Eurydice, “Then lovingly they wandered side by side/ or he would follow when she chose to lead/ or at another time he walked in front/ looking back, safely,—at Eurydice.”, (Ovid, in "Metamorphoses", the eleventh book).
This last passage is the theme of my sculpture: when the shadow of Orpheus turns his head and looks at Eurydice without fear because the gods could no longer punish him.
I sculpted the two characters in unusual shapes, carved in wood, without details, since they are both in a dreamlike environment, unreal, in eternity, he is a shadow and she is an illusion fixed on the soul drama of Orpheus.

Artwork Title: “Water and fire”

Artwork dimensions : Height/Width/Depth : 41 x 16 x 16 cm. Weight: 7 kg. Year of creation: 2022 Material: marble. This is a unique work

Description

Both water and fire are seen as living entities that possess a will and a spirit of their own. Water and fire symbolize life, fertility, creativity and inspiration in cultures around the world. At the same time, water and fire also represent loss, death, and destruction. Water and fire are mutually destructive—water will extinguish a flame, just as fire will boil water away to nothing. The cold, dark sheen of the rivers temper the exuberance of the fires while the bright dancing flames enliven the quiet surface of the water. The delicate and unlikely balance of these two opposing forces creates the magic that lies at the heart of WaterFire
